Guns Blazing: Day 2

Published by vodstok at 2:08 pm under Weapons Edit This

So yesterday we did one real weapon and 3 made-up ones, and I think that format works nicely, so we’ll do it again. Today’s features real weapon is the FN P-90. Stargate (the TV series) and Counter-Strike fans will be familiar with this one:

FN P-90

It is about as “Sci-fi” as a real world submachinegun gets. It carries 50 rounds, fires at a high rate of speed, and its ammunition has a greater penetration than any other pistol round available today (without getting into specifically armor-piercing rounds). Its not Metal Storm, but its a hell of a lot lighter.

But keeping with the idea of high rate of fire and compactness, lets look at these:

F.E.A.R.’s Penetrator

F.E.A.R.’s Penetrator

Despite the suggestive name, this weapon kicks serious ass. It fires small spears very fast, and can very quickly make an enemy look like a porcupine. The best thing is if they are close to a wall, they are literally nailed to it. I have had quite a few laughs killing clone soldiers in the game and seeing the weird positions they wind up in after getting massacred by this thing.

Crysis’ SMG

SMG

Admittedly, the first time I played through Crysis, I didn’t even bother with this one. I had an assault rifle and a shotgun, why in hell did I need to trade one for something with less power? Well, the second time through I got my answer. You can deck the SMG out with a laser pointer, sniper scope and silencer. Sounds like overkill for a close quarters weapon?

And How! Its awesome. The SMG has a higher rate of fire than the other weapons in the game, so closing in on an evil KPA soldier, you can put 20 rounds through his head in the blink of an eye, which makes them pretty dead most of the time.

Grammaton Cleric Sidearm

I decided to finish with a movie weapon again. Although never given an actual name in the movie, John preston’s guns in Equilibrium are wonders of weaponry. Most of the Clerics in the movie carry one, but Preston has two. They are modified Beretta 92Fs, made to fire automatically, plus some visual changes. In Preston’s hands, they make for about the most incredible gunfights, ever. They fire a burst of bullets every time he squeezes the trigger, and hide nicely in the sleeves of his jacket. he also has an auto-loader in there that will slip a new clip in when he runs out.

John Preston defines “Gun Fighter”.
